With reference to your Confidential Despatch of
the 30th. of January last, I have the honour to inform you that the amalgamation of the Land Office and Official Receiver's Office with the Office of the Crown Solicitor has been carried out.
The department will be called "Office of the Crow Solicitor and Land Registry" and the Crown Solicitor will be the nominal head of the Department. The Land Officer and the Official Receiver will continue to conduct their business directly with the Colonial Secretary and other departments as at present, but the Crown Solicitor will within the department as a whole day -distribute work, and make arrange .ents for such re-distribution in the absence of any of the members of the department, acting appoint- -ments being of course subject to approval by the Governor.

The Land Officer has informed me that he does
not wish to act for the Crown Solicitor when the latter is on leave, and I propose, therefore, that the Assistant Crow Solicitor, who is well qualified for the work, should act.

Mr. Fletcher, Deputy Official Receiver, will be gazetted Official Receiver in accordance with the arrangement
