With reference to your letter No. 1 in 6981/07 of 28th. May, from which I note that Mr. Harcourt desires that condition (VIII) in Paragraph 5 of your letter No. 1 in 6981/07
of the 15th. March should be excised. I beg to remind you that
Kowloon Marine Lot No. 9 is a very valuable site, which could read- -ily be sold to competitors of the Wharf & Godown Company at a price, very much in excess, of that, at which it is now under
offer to Government, moreover the Wharf & Godown Company has made
no secret of the objects it had in view when offering to sell this
Lot to Government at the low price of 84 per square foot.
These objects are:-
(a) the fixing of the site of the Terminus of the Railway on
this Marine Lot,
(b) the acquisition of the Railway siding which is to be
brought to the boundary of the Wharf & Godown Company's
property.
I trust therefore that the Wharf & Godown Company
may not be considered unreasonable, if in return for the waiving
of the above condition, it asks for the following undertakings
from Government,
(1) With reference to condition (X) in Paragraph 5 of your
above mentioned letter of 15th. March, the proposed rail· -way siding to approach the boundary of the Wharf & Godown Company's property from Marine Lot 9 in such a manner that the siding may be readily and conveniently
continued along the Wharf Company's Praya without
interference with the existing buildings and Godowns.
