With reference to the letter from this Department
of the 1st. April and to previous correspondence, I am directed to inform you that the Secretary of State for the Colonies has approv◄ -ed the proposal to acquire the whole of the land required for the terminal station of the Kowloon-Canton Railway by purchase and not by exchange of lands. Er. Harcourt, however, desires that condi- -tion (viii) in paragraph 5 of my letter No. 1 in 6981/07 of the 15th. March should be excised. You will recollect that this condition was stipulated by the Honourable Mr. E. Osborne on be- -half of the Wharf and Godown Company and I shall be glad to learn whether the Company is prepared to waive this condition.
