Your Confidential Despatch April 12th. I approve propos- -als to acquire whole of land required for Station by purchase and not by exchange of lands. You should if possible excise condition V 8 in agreement which formed enclosure 6 to your Despatch of 15th. March. Despatch follows by mail:
and to confirm my telegram of the 23rd. May requesting you to be good enough to instruct the Crown Agents to be prepared to meet bills at three days' sight for £140,000. The balance of the total sum of $1,473,879.25 payable can be met locally, pending the receipt of your promised Despatch as to the method of financing this transaction.

I enclose for your information a printed paper
giving details of the vote of $1,473,860 which was recommended on the 6th. June by the Finance Committee and will be confirmed at the next meeting of Legislative Council.

With regard to your wish that condition (viii)
