Sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

of your telegram of 30th. March in reply to Sir F. Lugerd's Des-

93 -patch No. 40 of 25th. January informing me that the War Office hed declined to forego claims for credit in the Colonial lilitary Lands Account for value of land.

2.

I have communicated the substance of your tele-

-gram to the Committee of the Diocesan Girls School and have enquired whether they desired that the metter should be proceeded with, at the same time informing them that the area was apparently valued at 12 cents per square foot or roughly $4,125 under the Lewis Memorandum but that as the Memorandum did not appear to be clear on the point possibly the War Office might claim 25 cents per square foot in which case the total premium would amount to about 88,250.

3.

The Committee have replied requesting that the matter may be proceeded with and stating that they will endeavour to raise the sum necessary to defray the cost of the land at 12 cents per square foot.

I have the honour to be, Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

Handsevern

Officer Administering the Government.)
