With reference to paragraph 3 of Mr. J. Chauber-

-lain's Despatch No. 152 of the 10th. August, 1899, I have the honour to state that the Colonial Treasurer has recommended the following amendment of General Order No. 58 (3) on page 230 of the 1911 issue of the Hongkong Civil Service List, viz.:-

*58 (3). Indian Folice and Indian Gaol Warders appointed before the 23rd. June, 1895, draw pension in India at the rate of Rupees 227 for every 8100; those appointed between that date and 1st. January, 1900, at the rate of Rupees 200 for every $100; and those appointed on and after the 1st.

January, 1900, at the current rate of exchange.

"58 (4). Subject to the foregoing rule, officers living in any Asiatic country draw their pensions in dollars at the market rate of exchange".

I propose with your approval to make these amendments and to cancel the two notes printed in red on the back

of the attached pension paper, substituting therefor a reference to these new General Orders.
