I should be much obliged if you would kindly

lay before His Excellency the Governor for transmission to the

Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies my

application for the post of Attorney General of Hongkong, if a

vacancy should occur in that office.

I was called to the Bar in November 1887, at

the Inner Temple, and my record in this Colony is as follows:-

1.

Acting Police Magistrate September 1888 to August 1889.

2.

Acting Puisne Judge, June to December, 1892.

3.

Received Gold Medal for Plague services in 1894.

Between January 1896 and December 1901 I acted as

Attorney General and a Member of the Law Committee of

the Council for various periods aggregating nearly three

years in all.

5.

Appointed Queen's Counsel for the Colony in 1900.

6.

From June 1900, till December 1901, I was President of

the Land Court for adjudicating on claims to land in

the New Territories.

On relinquishing the posts of Acting Attorney General

and President of the Land Court in December 1901, I

received a letter of thanks for my services in those

posts from the then Governor, Sir Henry Blake.

In 1903 I was elected by the Chamber of Commerce to be their temporary representative on the Legislative Council during the absence for 9 months from theColony of Mr R.Shewan, the other candidate being Mr E.A. Hewett
