Addition to General Orders.

The following rules concerning half-pay leave are additional to those set out in the Colonial Regulations and apply to all officers who have joined the service since the 1st of January, 1912, and to all other officers who may desire to come under them. They will apply to the case of any officer who has on any occasion applied for and received any privilege under them:---

1. Colonial Regulation 84 shall be read as though the words "four and a half years' resitlent service" were substituted for the words "six years' resident service".

2. Colonial Regulation 87 shall be read as though the words grant more than nine months' balf-pay leave " were substituted for the words "grant more than 12 months' half- pay leave" and the following words shall be substituted for the last sentence of that Regulation :---

"Leave on balf-pay will in no case be extended except on grounds of ill-health or of urgent private affairs or for such other reasons as may appear sufficient to the Secretary of State. In exceptional cases extension of leave on no pay may be granted.

3. At the request of any officer who may be eligible for the grant of any period of half pay leave under these Rules the Governor may commute the whole or any portion of such half-pay leave into one-half the period of full pay leave provided that the total period of such commuted and uncommuted leave shall not together with any period of vacation leave which may be granted at the same time exceed ten months.

4. An officer acting for another officer during such other officer's commuted leave shall be entitled to receive salary as if such other officer were on half-pay leave.

5. It shall be wholly within the Governor's discretion to approve or reject an application for the grant of full-pay instead of half-pay leave and the arrangement will not be applied to officers who are entitled while on leave to a rate of exchange exceeding 3/- to the dollar.
