She lost a son who at the time of his death was a member of the Hong-Kong Police, a Constable Paul Corlan by name, who died from sunstroke on the 19th June & died from its effects on the 21st June 09, having rendered almost three years' service then. I respectfully state to your Lordship that my mother received notice of his death & later on received the price of his effects. The amount seems small considering his watch alone was valued at three guineas & his other effects were at least £8 or £10.
Sometime before his death, in the spring of 1908, he met with an accident on duty in the early hours of the morning, falling down a cellar in depth & fracturing his patella in consequence, which the sunstroke had the more effect on his constitution.
