Hongkong Government to apply to the new territory

by their requesting the Company on several occasions to extend their line to the new frontier. Consequent- ly, my Directors are at a loss to understand why the

Hongkong Government should now object to a course of action which they themselves formerly urged upon

the Company, and which is obviously necessary if the Company are to fulfil their obligations to the Administration under the 1884 Agreement.

In any case, my Directors could not accept such a lease as indicated by the Hongkong Government, and they venture to hope that the Colonial Office will use their influence to induce the Hongkong Government to reconsider the matter, and to permit the Company to extend their line from the old to the new Kowloon frontier in the manner desired by the Administration,

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your obedient servant,

Wester

General Manager.
