I am directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt
to acknowledge the receipt of your letter
No.17444/10 of the 18th instant in which the
Lords Commissoners of the Treasury undertake
to ask Parliament to provide a contribution
of £12,000 in respect of each of the years
1911 and 1912 on account of the loss caused
to Hong Kong in consequence of the opium
policy of His Majesty's Government. This
offer is made

that the Colonial Government will accept the
contribution of £9000 already made as fulfil-
