With reference to Mr. Montagu's letter, R.&S.1679

of the 12th July on the subject of the opium

requirements of non China markets, I am directed by the

Secretary of State for India in Council to inform you

that, as a provisional measure pending receipt of the

information asked for in that letter, he has sanctioned

reduction of the amount of uncertificated opium for sale

in 1911 and other calendar years from 16,000 chests to

14,000 chests, and that the amounts to be offered at the

November and December sales at Calcutta will be reduced

decision into effect for the calendar year 1911.

I am to add with reference to the tabular
