Enclosure in Sir John Jordan's No. 445 of er November 16, 1911
Note from the Ministry of Communications to His Majesty's Kinis-
Sir,
ter, October 5, 1911.
With reference to the sum of £ £122,375 sterling, forming the 6th instalment of principal and interest of the Canton-Hankow Railway Redemption Loan, which is due on October 6, this Ministry has already requested Your Excellency to notify the Governor of Hongkong, so that when the Imperial Bank of China transmite the aforesaid amount, it may be mix
checked and a receipt given for it.
In the case of the present instalment this Ministry is undertaking the payment, and £101, 562 108., the total sum standing to the credit of this Ministry in the Lordon branch of the Yokohama Specie Branch, has already been trans- mitted. This wax however leaves a deficit of over £21,000 and so the Imperial Bank of China at Shanghai has received instructions to buy this amount of sterling at current rates and pay it over on the due date.
I have the honour to bring this to Your Excellency's attention, with a request that the Governor of Hongkong may be informed by telegraph, so that he may instruct the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank at Shanghai to receive in full the amount paid over by the local branch of the Imperial Bank of China so
as to prevent error.
We have, etc.,
