SECTION 1.
Sir,
Foreign Office to India Office.
WITH reference to your letter of the 21st instant forwarding copy of a letter
Foreign Office, October 26, 1911. from the Government of India enclosing copy of a letter from Messrs. David Sassoon and Co., and other opium merchants, complaining of the absence of any restriction on the importation into China of prepared opium, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to inform you that Sir J. Jordan was authorised by telegram on the 25th August to suggest that the prohibition of such importation by the Chinese Government should take effect at the same time as the prohibition of uncertified opium into Hong Kong.
A further telegram has now been addressed to Sir J. Jordan enquiring how the matter stands. The result of this enquiry will be communicated to you as soon as a reply is received.
