REGE 27 OCT 1

SECTION 2.

No. 1.

Sir,

Foreign Office to Board of Trade.

Foreign Office, October 11, 1911. WITH reference to your letter of the 9th instant relative to the refusal of the principal firms engaged in the manufacture of morphia to furnish information as to the quantity manufactured in this country, I am directed by Secretary Sir E Grey to transmit to you herewith a copy of a note from the Netherlands chargé d'affaires,* requesting that he may be furnished with statistics on the production and exportation of morphia and cocaine in order that printed copies may be prepared for the use of the delegates at the approaching Opium Conference.

It being apparently impossible to complete any statistics in regard to the manufacture of morphia and cocaine in the United Kingdom, Sir E. Grey proposes, with the concurrence of the Board of Trade, to supply M. van der Goes with copies of the list of exports and re-exports of those drugs from this country for the first six months of 1911, which was enclosed in your letter of the 26th August last,

am,

&c.

F. A. CAMPBELL.

* M. van der Goes, October 6, 1911.
