With reference to your lete 2003/1911 of the
14th. October, I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey
to transmit to you herewith, for the information of the
Secretary of State for the Colonies, copies of recent
papers respecting the proposed Anglo-Japanese Convention
for the mutual protection of trade marks in China.
It will be observed that as a result of the visit
paid by Mr. Crowe, Commercial Attaché to His Majesty's
Embassy at Tokyo, to the various Chambers of Commerce
during his presence in this country, it was suggested
that the proposed counterdraft for presentation to the
Japanese Government should be altered by the addition
of certain words to Article 1 and by the omission of
Articles 3 and 4.
These suggestions have been forwarded to the
Board of Trade in the letter from this Office of June
19th.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
