With reference to my despatch No. 254 of June 17 on
the subject of direct correspondence between the Govern-
ment of Hongkong and the Chinese Provincial Authorities
copies I have the honour to transmit taky of a despatch and
enclosures from His Majesty's Consul-General at Canton
which furthur illustrate the objections attaching to such
a practice.
