SECTION 1,

No. 1.

Sir,

Board of Trade to Foreign Office.-(Received June 21.)

Bourd of Trude, June 20, 1911.

I AM directed by the Board of Trade to advert to your letter of the 26th May, with its enclosures, relative to the protection of patents in China, The Board concur in the tenour of the reply which Sir E. Grey proposes to address to Mr. Law on the subject. They would, however, suggest, for Sir E. Grey's consideration, that Mr. Law might also be informed that, in view of the statement of His Majesty's consul-general at Shanghai, quoted in his letter, the patentee might find it desirable to deposit a copy of the specification of his British patent at the consulate-general, accompanied, if possible, by a certificate of the Comptroller-General of Patents, Designs, and Trade- marks in London stating that a patent has been granted. Application for such a certificate may be made to the Patent Office on patents form No. 31.

I am, &c.

GEORGE J. STANLEY.
