SECTION 5.
[18498]
No. 1.
Question asked in the House of Commons, May 11, 1911.
Mr. Theodore C, Taylor,-To ask the Under-Secretary of State for India if he will state the total quantity of opium due to have been sent to China from India for the three last years, viz., 1915, 1916, and 1917, of the former ten years' agreement, and whether the 21,000 extra chests now to be sent to China this year alone under the new agreement are more than the total of the last three years of the old agreement.
Answer by Mr. Montagu.
Under the 1907 agreement, as modified by the arrangement for marking off the China from the non-China portion of the permissible export, the chests certified for China will be 15,300 in all for the years 1915-17. I explained in a previous answer the misapprehension underlying the phrase "now to be sent to China in the last part of the question.
