SECTION 3.

[16041]

No. 1.

Sir J. Jordan to Sir Edward Grey.-(Received May 1.)

(No. 151.) Sir,

Peling, April 11, 1911. I HAVE the honour to report that the Acting Tartar General at Canton was assassinated on the night of the 8th instant by a member of the revolutionary society known as the Ke Ming Tang.

The news was communicated to me in a telegram dated yesterday from Mr. Jamieson, His Majesty's consul-general at Canton. Mr. Jamieson added that the assassin had only recently returned from the Straits Settlements. He did not think, however, that the In Canton itself crime was part of any concerted movement against the Government. everything was quiet, and local enquiries tended to show that the murder was merely the act of an isolated individual.

I have, &c.

J. N. JORDAN.
