The United States Ambassador informed me to-day
that his Government were comminácuting with Berlin,
The Hugue, Laubon, und Tokio, expressing the hope that
the Guvernsento there would be able to meet fully by
the lst. of July the British conditions for æfreeing
to the Opium Conference. The United States Government
hoped, therefore, that the British Government would
see their way to accept the date proposed by the Dutch
Government, and already agreed to by ali but three
Governments.
I said that I must consult the Incaa Office, the
Colonial Office, and the Board of Trade before I could
give a definite reply;
