Sir J. Jordan to Sir Edward Grey.--(Received February 11.)

(No. 35.) (Telegraphic.) P. ŎPIUM.
Peking, February 11, 1911.
Sir A. Hosie telegraphed yesterday from Chungking as follows :---
"I reached Chungking yesterday not having found a single poppy plant on my journey through the districts and departments of Fuchow, Kaibsien, Wushan, Taning, Wanhsien, Yunyang, Chungchow, Fengtu, Nanchuan, Chichiang, Pahsien. In past years the first two districts named were the chief centres of poppy cultivation in Szechuan province."
Recent reports of the striking reduction of opium cultivation in this province have been numerous, but this is the first official confirmation received.
