Government of India to Viscornt Morley.
(Telegraphic.) P.
March 19, 1911. HPIMAW expedition. See my telogram dated the 17th ultimo. Deputy inspector- general of military police has been sent to report on Lawkhaung, a few miles north of Wanghte, which Lieutenant-Governor of Burmah thinks will probably be site finally settled for post as being junction of rivers N'Maiklas and Chipwe Kha. Arrangements to clear site and to collect materials of construction are being made in the meanwhile. Two officers and 125 military police are proposed as strength of post. In view of assurance given by Burmah Government in their telegram of 13th ultimo (vide enclosure in letter of 16th ultimo from Secretary to Government of India, Foreign Department) that initial cost of post at Wanghte is not likely to exceed 20,000 rupees, and that recurring cost is not likely to exceed 4,398 rupees per month, I think approval may be accorded, but Burmah Government are being asked to furnish estimate of cost as soon as possible.
