SECTION 2.

rat 17 MAR 1

No. 1.

(No. 70.) Sir,

Sir Edward Grey to Sir J. Jordan.

Foreign Office, February 22, 1911. THE Chinese Minister spoke to me to-day about the Chinese dispute with Russia, and went into some detail with regard to it.

I said that I had not followed the question in detail, but I received a telegram from you yesterday reporting that the negotiations were going on favourably.

The Chinese Minister told me that he saw it stated in the newspapers that the Chinese reply had been acceptable to Russia, but this was not the information he had received from his Government.

I replied that the information which I had received from you was to the same effect as that which appeared in the newspapers.

I am, &c.
