THE Under-Secretary of State for India presents his compliments to the Under- Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, and, by direction of the Earl of Crewe, forwards herewith, for the information of the Secretary of State, copy of a telegram from the Secretary of State for India to the Viceroy, dated the 8th February, 1911, regarding the expedition to Hpimaw.

India Office, February 8, 1911. SEE telegram dated the 6th instant from His Majesty's Minister at Peking. Question will of course be considered by you whether, pending further development of situation and clear understanding of Chinese intentions, it is not desirable that Hertz should remain in the neighbourhood of the frontier. For the Chinese to step in directly Hertz's back is turned is obviously undesirable. regards police posts, I should be glad to be informed of your decision.
