No. 1..

Sir J. Jordan to Sir Edward Grey.--(Received December 11.)

Peking, December 11, 1910.

(No. 198.) (Telegraphic.) P.

BURMAH-YÜNNAN frontier. With reference to my immediately preceding telegram of yesterday's date, I have the honour to report that a note dated the 10th December has been addressed to me by the Wai-wu Pu which, after reference to their note of the 10th June last, forwarded in Mr. Max Müller's despatch No. 196 of the 15th June, quotes a telegram in which the Viceroy of Yunnan asks that our troops be withdrawn at an early date. The request for a joint delimitation, of the frontier and the appointment of officers for that purpose is reiterated, and the note adds that in the meantime the limits of existing control must be respected by both parties, who must not permit the frontier to be crossed by troops.

I am requested to reply without delay, and to send telegraphic instructions to His Majesty's consul-general at Yunnan-fu in the above sense.

I should be glad of your instructions as to the reply I should make.
