FOREIGN OFFICE.

February 10th, 1911.

We have received a telegram from Peking

in which Sir J. Jordan strongly recommends Mr. Max

Müller as British Delegate to the proposed Opium

Conference at the Hague, the date of which, Jordan

understands is likely to be advanced at the request

of the Chinese Government.

As you know, Max Müller has during his

term of Chargé d'Affaires, taken a leading part in

the negotiations in regard to the Opium Question

with the Chinese Government and has furnished an

exhaustive Report on the cultivation of Opium in

China
