We have received a telegram from Peking
in which Sir J. Jordan strongly recommends Mr. Max
Müller as British Delegate to the proposed Opium
Conference at the Hague, the date of which, Jordan
understands is likely to be advanced at the request
of the Chinese Government.
As you know, Max Müller has during his
term of Chargé d'Affaires, taken a leading part in
the negotiations in regard to the Opium Question
with the Chinese Government and has furnished an
exhaustive Report on the cultivation of Opium in
China
