Government of India to the Earl of Crewe.

(Telegraphic.) P.

December 5, 1910. EXPEDITION to Pien-ma. Please refer to my telegram dated the 28th ultimo. Consul at Teng-yuch telegraphed on the 28th ultimo to Burmah Government as follows:-

"Urgent telegram from Viceroy of Yunnan, conveying instructions to proceed to Pien-ma without delay, was received yesterday by the Paoshan magistrate of Yung- Chang-Fu. The magistrate, with a small escort, exact number of which I cannot ascertain, left Yung-Chang-Fu this morning. I met this officer, it will be remembered, last spring during my journey. He visited Pien-ma on that occasion, and presented local headmen with badges of office. His reputation is unusually good, and the impression he created was, I believe, a favourable one.”

(Repeated to His Majesty's Minister, Peking.)
