In continuation of our letter of the 14th

February on the subject of the proposal to retain your services as Consulting Engineers for the Kowloon

Canton Railway, I have to inform you that we have now

learned through the Colonial Office that the Colonial

Government is not prepared to enter into any agreement

such as that proposed by us and set forth in your

letter to us of the 9th January last.

2. It appears probable however that we shall

from time to time require your assistance in dealing

with indents or other work sent to us by the Railway

Administration for execution. I have therefore to

enquire whether you would be prepared, should occasion

arise to advise us on work in connection with the

Kowloon Canton Railway charging a proportionate fee in

each case where a reference is made to you.

3. We have passed the account you have sub-

mitted for your expenses in connection with the work

referred to between January and May of this year.
