bargained with the fishermen as also did Mr. Chú and the crew of

the launch. I mention this merely to show that the proceedings were quite friendly. There was no sign of ill-will on the part of any of the fishermen in Nam O harbour, quite the contrary; and

conditions were perfectly normal.

Leaving Nam O we steaned up the Chinese

coast of Mirs Bay to Sha-ü-chung where lir. Orme, Mr. McElderry

and I paid a visit to the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs

Officer in charge. He told us that everything was quite normal

along the whole length of the Chinese coast of Lirs Bay. All the

Customs Stations were intact and duties were being paid as usual.

From Sha-ü-chung I returned direct to Taipo

and thence to Hongkong this evening.

In the circumstances I suggest that the

Consul-General at Canton should be informed that the incident

is closed and that no further action on his part is required.
