The Governor assured him of safety and

hospitality while in Hongkong, and told him that in consequence of what he had said in Legislative Council yesterday the Chinese Lombers of Council and others had early this morning issued poster

-ers claiming safety and hospitality for the ex-Viceroy. The

Governor added that he would be welcome at Government House

whenever he might like to come over and converse on matters.

(1). Hon. Dr. Ho Kai, C.A.C., gives the information that the Weichau army reached Canton on the night of the 10th. General Lung having apparently not left Canton as supposed by the Vice- -roy, and at the last minute he agreed to go over to the revolutionaries on condition that he was made Commander of the land forces. This was agreed to. It is reported that his force com from Kwangsi (not Yuman) though possibly consisting largely of Yunnanese.

See despatch from Consul-General dated 27th. October giving an account of the meeting and of the Resolutions. He says "The resolutions nave been approved by the Governor General". Telegram of 30.10.11 contradicts this.
