Public Works Office,
Hongkong, 14th. August, 1911.
I beg to inform you that it is necessary, in
connection with the development of Sham Shui Po Village, to carry
out a reclamation scheme so as to render available areas which
can be given in exchange for existing lots on which it is un-
-desirable to permit the re-crection of houses.
2.
As may be seen from the enclosed plan (hark-
-ed A), the existing village consists of a mass of buildings of Ereat irregularity intersected by exceedingly narrow streets. Some of the houses were burned down some time ago and others of them are in a very dilapidated condition and it is obviously un-
-desirable to permit their re-crection on their present sites.
3.
The only way to render available sites which
may be ranted in exchange for the existing ones is to carry out
a reclamation scheme and I have indicated such a scheme on plan
B.
4.
The areas cross-hatched in brown on plan B are
either already reclaimed or are in course of reclamation. I propose that the areas coloured red and yellow should now be reclaimed by Government to provide sites for parties who may be dislodged from the present village because their lots are required
for the formation of roads etc.
The estimated cost of the scheme is as
5.
follows:-
Reclamation of red area.. Reclamation of yellow area.
Channel for diversion of storm-water
rendered necessary by reclamation of yellow area.

The Colonial Secretary.
