$122,871 or approximately the amount of the Imperial contribut-
-ion on account of loss of opium revenue. On the other hand a
saving of $221,520 is anticipated on the total Expenditure
which was originally estimated at 87,385,320. These estimates
if realised will result in a surplus on 31st. December, 1911,
of $45,454 (instead of the estimated deficit of 8298,937 to be
charged to Typhoon Refuge Account) and this sun added to the
balance of Assets accrued on 31st. December, 1910, will give
a balance of Assets on 31st. December, 1911, increased to
$1,452,379.

The Estimates of Revenue for the coming
year show a gross increase of 8591,105 over those approved for
the current year. Of this amount $332,600 is accounted for by
the Kowloon-Canton Railway, $128,803 by Fees of Court etc.,
and the remainder chiefly by smaller increases in Assessed
Taxes, Post Office, Rents and Conservancy Contracts. The
figure for the Railway must however be discounted by in-
-creased expenditure, including charges for interest and
sinking fund, estimated at $135,296 and that for Fees of
Court, etc., by the contribution from the Imperial Government
which at 1 s. 9 d. works out at $137,143. Allowance being
