In reply to paragraph 2 of your Con-

-fidential Despatch of the 17th. of last June, I have the

honour to inform you that I propose to supply the Judges with

a quarterly statement of the crime in the Colony. The statement

will be prepared by the Crown Solicitor with the assistance of

the Captain Superintendent of Police and will I hope furnish a

useful indication to the Judges of any crimes which may be

specially rife and in punishing which it is desirable to impose

severe sentences.
