In reply to your Confidential Despatch
of the 26th. of last July, I have the honour to inform you that
the volume in question was not printed at Government expense.

Mr. C. Clementi forwarded on the 21st.
June a copy of the volume to the Deputy Assistant Quarter Master
General "R" Section, Intelligence Branch, Division of the Chief
of the Staff, Simla: and has sent his plans to the Royal Geo-
-graphical Society.

Upon the receipt of your Confidential
Despatch of the 8th. of last June, steps were taken to prevent
in future any such oversight as that pointed out in the 3rd.
paragraph of your Despatch under reply for which I have to
express my regret. I may, however, point out that there is
nothing of a confidential nature in this correspondence, as Mr.
