I have the honour to confirm my tele-
-gram of the 21st. instant which was as follows:-
When may reply be expected with regard to Companies Ordinance? Matter urgent because revision of laws being delayed. Representations have been made uncertainty as to Shanghai Companies causing serious hardship. New Bank has applied for incorporation under Ordinance:
and to refer you in this connection to my Despatch No. 64 of the
25th. of last February, and to previous correspondence. I attach
also copies of letters dated the 9th. and 11th. instant received
from lessrs. Ewens and Harston and Messrs. Johnson, Stokes and
Master respectively.

The reasons for my telegraphic inquiry
are (a) that the revised edition of the Hongkong Ordinances can-
-not be brought into force until the Companies Consolidation
Ordinance is passed, since all the existing Companies Ordinances
