would probably be filled by the Puisne Judge (since the post
may no longer be held by the Attorney-General] unless you saw
fit to send a Judge from another Colony a course which has
never so far been adopted. The vacancy as Puisne Judge would
be filled by any other fully qualified officer so that eventual
-ly a Cadet vacancy is created. A similar series of acting
appointments would occur if the Governor went on long leave
and for this reason the Governor too appeared in the Tables
though like the Chief Justice and Puisne Judge and Attorney-
-General, he is outside the Cadet Service.
Though the senior legal posts are not
Cadet posts there are a number of appointments in the list
given in hr. J. Chamberlain's Despatch No. 171 of 15th. June,

such as the Registrar of Supreme Court, First and Second Lagis-t
-trates, two Deputy Registrars, with the Deputy Official
Receiver and the Crown Solicitor since added (vide Despatch
No. 183 of 11th. Aug.st, 1908, and paragraph 3 of your
Despatch under reply). Possibly also you may desire to include
the post of Assistant Crown Solicitor ? It is from amongst
this group that a Cadet qualified to act temporarily as Puisne
Judge
