Hon. Colonial Secretary,
The amounts collected in outlying villages
towards local celebrations of the King's Coronation were:-
Tai 0.
Cheung Chau..
Aberdeen.
.(about) £990.00
610.00
315.00
(Of the Tai O subscription some 8350 was
spent on the theatre, which is an annual affair, and was held this
year in connection with the other celebrations, by special ar-
-rangement.)
In addition to the above, there was consider-
-able expenditure by all the villagers in the decoration and
illumination of their shops and houses.
The subscriptions in all cases were Lost
spontaneously and enthusiastically given: when a meeting was held
in Cheung Chau Temple to discuss the scheme, some $300,00 was
subscribed on the spot.
