On Coronation Day a special service was held
in St. John's Cathedral; there were also special services at the Roman Catholic Cathedral, at the Synagogue, and at the Sikh Temple in the Happy Valley. The Chinese Christians held a service
in St. John's Cathedral.
A Public Meeting was held at the City Hall presided over by Your Excellency which was largely attended, at which the various telegrams and addresses were read. The Chinese address was read both in Chinese and English.
The afternoon was devoted to the children, & large sum being set aside for their entertainment and a.usement. All the schools in the Colony, except private schools for the teaching of the vernacular, were included, but it was left to the Heads of each school to decide in what particular form the grant which was made should be spent. In some cases a special dinner or tea was given, whilst in others a trip on the Railway or a launch picnic or a cinematograph show formed the chief item.
Bronze medals, ordered from England, bearing likenesses of Their Majesties the King and Queen, were presented to each child, and an address, prepared by Your Excellency was read out to the children. I annex a letter of thanks from the
Berlin Foundling House, as serving to indicate the amount of
pleasure which was given to the children.
