I have the honour unit the following:
report on the Coronation Celebrations held on Thursday and Friday 22nd. and 23rd. June.

The Committee was originally formed by Your Excellency with power to add to their number, and with myself as Chairman. At a public meeting at the City Hall convened for the consideration of the subject generally, a large number of persons including the Foreign Consuls were added, and Sub-Committees were formed charged with the duty of looking after the different branches of the Festivities. The document annexed, Marked 'A', shows the ultimate constitution of these Committees. I annex it as it shows how wide-spread the interest taken in the celebra- -tions was.
2.
At the first meeting of the General Committee the question of a Permanent Memorial was much discussed, but it was ultimately abandoned, principally owing to the opposition of the Chinese Members. They explained that it was more consistent with their views as to what was befitting the occasion that there should be Festivities; in these they promised to co-operate heart and soul, and they more than fulfilled their promise.
