With reference to your letter No. 910 of
the 29th of March last and to previous correspéi
on the subject of the subsidiary coinage of
H. Kong, I am directed by Mr. Sec. Harcourt
to transmit to you, to be laid before the L.C.
of the Treas., copies of further desp. from
the Gov.
This matter has been discussed informally
by representatives of the Treasury and of this
Office, and Mr. Harcourt is alsposed to agree
with the conclusion at which they arrived,
viz. that the only solution of the present
difficulties lies in the introduction of a
new subsidiary silver coinage, which will be
the present supplied in exchange for/.K. subsidiary silver

coins during a strictly limited period of time,
say 7 days. Within this limit of time, suffi-
cient coins can be issued to meet the l-giti-
