I understand that you will shortly be requiring

the services of a Manager for the Kowloon-Canton Railway (British

Section), and I now have the honour to apply for this position.

Born in 1868 I was educated at Repton and took my

B.A. Degree in Law at Cambridge. My Railway experience has been gain-

-ed in America where I was employed during the construction, and after-

-wards served as Assistant Manager to a Railway built for Messrs.

Matheson & Co.in California.

In October, 1903, I was appointed Secretary to Mr.

A. H. Collinson, M.Inst.C.E. Engineer-in-Chief of the Shanghai-Nanking Railway.

In November, 1905, I was made Acting Traffic

Manager, and on the appointment of Mr. A. W. U. Pope, C.I.E., (in

1908) as Traffic Manager I was confirmed in the appointment of Deputy Traffic Manager which position I have since continued to hold.

At present I am under Agreement with the Imperial

Chinese Railways, and according to the terms of this it would be

necessary for me to give three months' notice. The conditions of this

Agreement are as follows:- Pay 8550 per month with unfurnished

residence, and Travelling Allowance £100 per month six months* leave after 5 years' service on full pay, and passage to England and

return.
