Are we to understand from it that where, as in some instances is the case, a section of one of the above Lots runs right through to Shanghai Street, the Government will only recognise a claim for an injurious affecting of the front (or Reclamation Street) portion and not for the injurious affecting of the back or Shanghai Street portion of it. We only desire information on this point for the sake of clarity as a repudia- -tion of claims in such cases is not to be clearly gathered from your letter although expressly covered by section 5 of our letter.

Where a section does not front on Reclama- -tion Street we appreciate the Government repudiates claims.

We note the advice given to the Government as indicated in the last part of your letter. The injurious affecting of the Shanghai Street portion of the property would appear to be a matter of fact to be proved by evidence rather than of opinion. The owners of the Shanghai Street Sections state that they will be very seriously injuriously affected by the works.

5.

If you will kindly let us have a definite reply to paragraph 2 at your early convenience the owners will carefully consider their position and proceed as they may be advised.

We have etc.,

The Hon. Sir Henry May, K.C.M.C.,

Colonial Secretary.

(Sd.) Deacon, Looker and Deacon.
