mine the amount of compensation, if any, to be jaid to any such claimant for any such injurious affecting as is described in suli section (1) of this section and may award costs in his discre tion either for or against the Crown or for or against any parties claiming compensation, such costs in case of difference to be settled by the Registrar of the Supreme Court.

(4.) No appeal shall fie from any award or decision of a Judge of the Supreme Court under this section.*

4. The following section is hereby addel to the Princi- pal Ordinance and shall be read at the end thereof :---

13. For the purposes of the hearing of any claim for compensation such Judge of the Supreme Court shall lave powers similar to those vested In the Supreme Court on the occasion of any action in respect of the following matters, namely

(a) enforcing the attendance of witnesses and examining them upon oath, affirmation or otherwise;

(b) compelling the production of doen-

ments:

(c) punishing persons guilty of contempt; (d) ordering inspection of any premises; and

(e) entering upon and viewing of any por- mises,"

An Ordinance to provide for the narrowing, stopping up, diversion, turning or alteration in levels of Highways.

Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Highways short title. Ordinance, 1910.

2. Whenever, in the opinion of the Governor-in-Council, Power of

narrow, etc.,

it shall be expedient to narrow, stop up, divert or turn any in-Council to street on frown land, or any portion of such street, either eutirely or reserving a bridle way or foot way along the streets on whole or any part or parts thereof or to alter the level of Crown land. any such street or portion thereof, the Governor-in-Conneil nay direct that a notification be published, in English and Chinese, in three successive numbers of the Gazette, specifying the locality and extent of the street which it is proposed to so narrow, stop up, diver, turn or alter the level of, and shall further direct that a notice in writing, in English and Chinese, in the form or to the effect of the Schedule to this Ordinance be affixed at each end of the said street, or of such portion of the said street as it is proposed to narrow, stop up, divert, turn or alter the level of.

3. If any owner or occupier of property in the immediate Owner or vicinity of such street objects to such narrowing, stopping occupier to up, diversion, turning or altering the level of, such objec- tion int

send objec tion shall be suur in writing to the Colonial Secretary so writing to as to reach his office not later than one week after the Colonia! publication of the last of the aforesaid notifications in the Secretary. Gazette. Such objection shall state the reasons and specify the property with regard to the ownership or occupation

of which such objection is made and the interest therein of the objector.
