I have the honour to inform you that I

have recently received an application from the Coxswain and

Engineer of the Post Office Launch for an increase of salary.

I find on going into the question that

launch crews.

the pay of these men compares unfavourably with that of other

Coxswains and Engineers employed in Government Launches and

that there is a lack of uniformity generally in the pay of

propose therefore to revise salaries as set

out in the accompanying schedule, the effect of which will be

a total saving of $300 per annum on minimum salaries and an

increase of maxima by $408 per annum, and I have to request

your sanction to make the necessary changes in the Estimates

for the year 1912.

The question of salaries has led to the

larger question of the administration of the Launch Service

and I have come to the conclusion that the efficiency of the

service
