Sir,

AY
I beg to inform you that I have received a
letter from the Venerable Archdeacon Barnett, Secretary of the
Church Missionary Society, South China, enquiring whether the
south-western boundary of Inland Lot 754 (Fairlea) may be altered
so as to extend the lot and include the area cross-hatched in
blue pencil on the enclosed plan.
You will observe that the proposal involves a
diversion of Bonham Road, which in turn involves a slight en-
-croachment, show by cross hatching in red pencil, on the area
allotted for the erection of the University. The object is to
enable the Church Missionary Society to erect a large hostel in
connection with the University.
From an inspection of the general plan, it does
not appear that the proposal will entail any interference with the arrangements connected with the University buildings or grounds
but it may be considered advisable to refer it to the Architects
for that institution before definitely agreeing to sanction it.
The diversion of the road entails the follow-
-ing works, of which an approximate estimate is given:-
Excavation of bank to road level.
