To mention one instance of what this in- -crease means in the actual work of preparation and bookkeeping I need only point out that, whereas in 1900 the botal number of accounts prepared and forwarded to the Treasury for payment was 2,520, the total for last year (1910) was 5,074 representing an increase of 101.34%.

To carry on the duties attached to my office as Superintendent of Accounts, Correspondence and Stores I have under my orders at the present time fourteen clerks, and

eighteen other office and store assistants, being an increase of

three of the former and five of the latter over the year 1900.

There are 248 names on the Departmental

Monthly pay-lists as compared with 155 in 1900, being an increase

of 50%.

I trust that the foregoing particulars, as

regards increase of work, may be sufficient in themselves to

convince His Excellency the Governor and yourself, that, apart

from the other consideration which I have enumerated, the in- -creased work entailed in supervision alone through the #general

development of the Department has substantially raised the im-

-portance, and increased the responsibility of the post which I

Although I am not aware that I may reasonably

living here as a married man, whilst I am at the same time maintaining and educating my children in England, still the fact remains, that, as an improvement in my income would be most welcom
