I have the honour to request
instructions as to the method to be adopted in calculating
the pensions of Cadot Officers appointed to the Hongkong
Civil Service prior to the date on which the existing
pension minute came into force.

According to paragraph12 of the
Pension Minute dated the 5th. May, 1862, and published as
Covernment Notification No. 120 in the Hongkong Gazette of
the 29th. November, 1862, "Cadets, appointed in pursuance
"of the Regulations published in the Government Gazette of
"the 12th. October, 1861, will date the commencement of
*their claims to pension from the period at which the Board
"of Examiners may declare them qualified for Government
"Interpreters".
This paragraph was amended in the pension
minute forwarded in Sir A. Kennedy's Despatch No. 172 of
