I am directed by His Excellency the Officer
Administering the Government under instructions received from
the Secretary of State for the Colonies to offer you the post of Assistant Superintendent of Botanical and Forestry Depart-
-ment in this Colony under the terms set out in the attached
paper of particulars, and to request you to be good enough to
inform me by telegram (the cost of which will be defrayed by this Government) whether you are prepared to accept the appoint-
-ment.

In the event of your accepting the appoint
-mont you should proceed to Hongkong as soon as possible.
