With reference to your predecessTM
@-or's Despatch No. 164 of the 16th. of June, I have the
honour to inform you that I have discussed the question of
the re-adjustment of the sterling salaries of the appoint-
-ments held by Officers originally appointed as Cadets
with Mr. R. B. Stubbs who has recently visited the Colony
+
for the purpose.

Mr. Stubbs informed me that in the
similar scheme agreed upon with Sir John Anderson for the
Straits Settlements and the Federated Malay States, in-
-creases of salary took the form of duty pay to be drawn in
the Colony by the Officers actually performing the duties
of the posts concerned. The principle is in my opinion
sound. It entails no increase in pensionable salary and by
increasing
